Hall of Wisdom, Nathan H. Hurt, P.E.
Nathan (Nate) H. Hurt P.E., received a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado. He is also a graduate of the Executive Management course of Penn State University. He started his engineering career with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. His 40 year engineering management career at Goodyear included 22 years in management and operation of a Department of Energy uranium enrichment facility. In this capacity, Mr. Hurt became President of the Goodyear Atomic Corporation.
Mr. Hurt served as President of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, International (ASME), 1991-1992. He is currently a member of the Foundation Board and the Executive Committee of the ASME program for Peer Review of the Department of Energy, Environment Management, Office of Science and Technology development projects. He has been committed to nurturing ASME's role to help engineering students and practicing engineers strengthen their managerial skills and furnishing resources to them. Furthering this objective, he took a leadership role in linking the ASME Professional Practice Online Curriculum to the My Own Business, Inc. website in order to provide engineers with a resource for basic entrepreneurial guidelines.
Mr. Hurt is a past member of the Nuclear Engineering Advisory Board of the Center for Technology Information at the National Conference of State Legislators. He is a member of the American Association of Engineering Societies, Institute of Nuclear Materials Management, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Tau Beta Pi Honorary Engineering Society, and Pi Tau Sigma, Honorary Mechanical Society. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio and holds a DOE "Q" Security Clearance.
Currently Mr. Hurt is a consultant to engineering firms providing project management and marketing of studies and design of Department of Energy nuclear facilities. His work includes environmental remediation services to the Department of Energy for its various nuclear weapons and fuel facilities.
